Elias Tobias, P. Eng. & Entrepreneur
Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Elias graduated in 1986 as a Professional Civil Engineer at the age of 21. The following year he achieved great success by starting his first business in the Engineering and Construction industry providing design build project delivery. Along with 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur, Elias also studied Business Administration in Brazil in one of the top business schools in the country in 1988.
Two years later Elias started another business in the IT industry seizing the opportunities of a new industry becoming one of the first VAR’s (“Value Added Reseller”) in the country for networking software solutions for a major world brand starting in Brazil. At that time Elias also became an authorized reseller and service center for key players in the computer industry for servers and workstations. By 1995, when the Internet revolution was in its early stages, Elias was an industry pioneer in Brazil.
In 1996, Elias immigrated to Canada where he was hired as an Internet Division Manager by a major Canadian IT solutions provider. He built the division from the ground-up and provided great value to businesses across Canada (the majority of which had little to no experience with the Internet at that time).
Four years later Elias moved to the United States where he continued to work as an IT consultant. After two more years in the United States Elias then moved back to Brazil where he spent the next 10 years providing engineering consulting services and running a family business.
On the advice of an old friend (and now business partner) John Strasdas, Elias returned to Canada in June 2010 arriving in the heart of the oil sands in Fort McMurray, AB. Elias commenced employment as a professional engineer where he was hired by a leading Canadian Engineering consulting firm and he was deployed to work inside tar sands sites of one of the top Canadian Oil Sands operators.
Through his engineering work in Fort McMurray, Elias became familiar with the challenges faced by the Oil & Gas industry and envisioned an opportunity to provide services and solutions to combat those challenges.
He shared his vision with John Strasdas who had established a very successful plumbing business in Fort McMurray and was looking for another business venture investment opportunity. Mr. Strasdas then introduced Elias to John Kuebler, a proven sales champion. The concept of Safety Scan was born shortly thereafter in 2012.
